Flora biodiversity of Mt. Pohorje's forests and habitats is severely diminished and disrupted because of human influence an actions. Before human interference Pohorje had large, rich virgin mixed forests of Fir, Beech and other deciduous tress full of live. Which is now found only in protected primeval forest Šumik and few other non protected places like secondary primeval forest Božje štenge and Reber which is being destroyed right now.

Many regions on Pohorje's forests now consist of monoculture of nonnative, unadapted and inadequate Spruce, which was imported from abroad for economic purposes in 18th and 19th century. Spruce is present also in mixed economic forests with Beech. Those economic and especially monoculture forests are very poor in life forms, unstable, attacked by bark beetles which attack and kill Spruce in increasingly large numbers. They're threatened also by other invasive spices and climate change. Massive die out of Spruce is just matter of time, probably in next decades if temperatures increase to rise and state continues it's ignorance.

Urgent action is need to protect those forests by increasing biodiversity and bring them to natural state as close as possible to assure bright and stable future for them. This is what Vallant.si non profit project renaturalization of Mt. Pohorje's forests project does and is divided in:
